Pushkar Fair - A Close Look at Rajasthan's Culture - Paola, Italy
Pushkar Fair, for me was tremendously helpful in understanding the cultural heritage of Pushkar. The town of Pushkar is a quiet one with vibrant people. I roamed around a lot freely and took a number of snaps. The fair was a big one and the sheer number of camels made me understand why this is considered the largest fair in the world. Apart from animals there were many other day to day items that were on sale. Pushkar is also a pilgrimage destination - the only place where a temple dedicated to the Hindu God Brahma exists. The Pushkar lake glitters at night during the fair when hundreds of candles are left afloat in it. Pilgrims take a dip in the holy Pushkar lake on full moon light which is considered very auspicious. Infact, I spoke to quiet a few pilgrims who had travelled a great distance, just to take this dip. Pushkar Fair gave me an opportunity to understand the culture of Rajasthan and I will definitely visit the fair again in future if possible.

I visited India in 2008 and was exploring the north India when I heard about the Pushkar fair and its significance. I reached the town and found it to be very friendly. The hotels were a bit expensive but strolling around in Pushkar, meeting the locals as well as other fellow foreigners and most importantly witnessing the Pushkar fair compensated all. It's an incredible experience and I would suggest all to visit it atleast once.
